10 Reasons Why You Must Go Camping in Kullu-Manali
Now, I have been trekking and camping in the mountains of Kullu-Manali in Himachal Pradesh for quite some time now. I have spent many a nights sleeping under a starry night sky or near rivers and streams in the forests with no other sound to hear but that of the water.
I have also spent days doing nothing but listening to the rain pitter-pattering against my tent. Whenever I travel to Kullu-Manali for the Himalayas, which I often do, I never check in and prefer camping over a four-walled hotel room.
And since there are many people who want to know what is it about camping that I love it so much and why they should try it too, I decided to write this blog. So here I go. Hope it helps and may you also try out camping in the mountains of Kullu-Manali.
1. You stay close to nature, very close
What’s the point of visiting the mountains when you can’t even get close to nature? Only camping gives you the opportunity to be one with the nature and to stay close to her, making camping a must for all the nature lovers. Imagine living close to a waterfall or a river or amidst a forest of Deodar trees? When you go camping, only then you realize what all you have missed.
2. You sleep under a starry night sky
I belong to metro and trust me when I tell you that I can’t even see a single star from my rooftop thanks to all the high-rises. When I camp, I just lie down in the evening, look up and watch all the bright shining stars. The moon looks so close, you could raise your hand and hold it. I don’t know about you but for me, living under a starry night sky is the best thing I can ever ask for.
3. You wake up to the most beautiful view of your life
After a day of trekking in the forests, you go off to a sound sleep like a baby. In the morning, you wake up to the most beautiful view of your life. It takes a moment for you to realize that you are not in your home bed and when you do you are happily amazed to find yourself in a tent surrounded by pristine forests. Thereafter, it’s pure joy walking around in the first rays of the sun. And there can’t be a better sight than a sunrise in the mountains.
4. You stop checking your phone every single minute
When you camp, the chances of you using your phone frequently get slimmer. Why? Because the physical effort of reaching your camp site takes your mind off your phone and if you are camping in the deep wild, there may not be any network. But most importantly, when you are this close to nature, you don’t feel like playing with your phone anymore.
5. Your mind becomes calmer
Whenever I camp in the forests, far away from the mad mad world, I realize that my mind becomes calmer. May be it’s the physical exertion of the trekking or the scenic beauty of the forests, but my head feels a lot lighter and am sure this holds true to everyone.
6. You inhale fresh air
I breathe 100% pure mountain air all the time and that does wonders to me. Try it yourself.
7. You cook your meals on woodfire
There is a joy even in collecting wood logs in the forest and then cooking your meal on a woodfire. And trust me, your food tastes tastier than cooked anywhere else.
8. You spend the evening around a bonfire
Any camping in the wild can’t be complete without a bonfire. You can’t be more at peace when you sit around in the natural light of the burning logs, listening to the sound of crackling logs and watching the flames go up.
9. You ask the big questions
We are all stuck in the daily grind and usually don’t think beyond our jobs, businesses or families. But when you are in the forests and close to nature, you begin to wonder about nature, your place in this universe and you realize the meaning of life is much bigger than you thought or maybe even could comprehend.
10. Your voice echoes
And oh yes, I love camping in the mountains because sometimes I like to hear the echo of my voice, loud and clear 🙂
