5 Reasons Why Should you Go To Mountains To Heal Yourself
We are living in anxious times. The corporate slavery has turned us into panic-stricken stressed-out edgy beings lost in the maze of our fearful thoughts. Chained to our fears and insecurities, our souls are dying in the daily grind. Our inner peace has been snatched away from us and there is a war on to control our minds. Is there a way out? Can I still save my soul and find the joy of living in this world? Can I set myself free?
Like so many other people, I also asked the same questions from myself. And when I couldn’t take it anymore, I switched off my phone, disconnected myself from the world, and headed for the mountains in Kullu-Manali.
I spent a month there trekking, camping and generally pondering over what my life has come to. And by the end of the month, I had come to realize that mountains do heal you and that you can find your true self only after losing yourself in nature. Here is why you should go to the mountains to heal yourself and to find your soul:
1. Mountains calm you down
Mountains have a calming effect on you. Far from the city noise and the madding crowd, the peace and quiet of the mountains instantly calms your mind. It’s almost magical. You are no longer trying to prove anything. You are just being yourself.
2. Mountains give you a fresh perspective on life
Stress takes you under control when you try to control everything in your life. Staying close to nature teaches you a very important lesson: You are free and so are others. When you watch the mighty mountains, hear the sound of gushing rivers, and sleep under a starry night sky, you start to get a fresh perspective on your life and you learn to let go.
3. Mountains make you discover your true self
Far away from a materialistic world where you have been reduced to a customer, who works to spend, you start realizing there is more to life. You look at the beautiful wonders of nature around you and start wondering about your place in this universe. And when you lose yourself in nature, you find your true self.
4. Mountains are best for meditation
Himalayas have always been home to people searching for peace of mind and the meaning of life. And they have been so right all this while. There just can’t be a better place than a mountain for meditation. The beauty, the quiet and the peace of the mountains – all conspire to make you sit and meditate.
5. Mountains teach you mindfulness
Time slows down in the mountains. Away from the city life, you are no longer in a hurry. Slowly and gradually, you start becoming mindful of your actions and aware of your thoughts and surroundings. You start to take notice of things you were not aware of earlier. With mindfulness and awareness, you achieve inner peace.
