All roads, it seems, leads to Kullu and Manali during summers. Every May and June, lakhs of people pack their bags and take a trip to paradise to escape the city heat and to get close to nature. But is it really worth going to Kullu-Manali in May-June? Here are 5 reasons why you can avoid Kullu-Manali in summers and visit the ‘valley of the gods’ in months other than these two.

1. Horrible traffic jams

The traffic, to say the least, is horrible. You get stuck in endless traffic jams the moment you enter Kullu and remain caught till you reach Manali. Reason? Around 1200 to 1300 vehicles reach Kullu every day in May and June and there is one narrow road to handle this much of traffic load.

Come May and June and most hotels in Kullu and Manali start over-charging. Hoteliers cash in on the simple fact: Higher the demand, greater the room rates.

3. Price-surging

Not only hotel rooms, there is a price-surging everywhere due to the heavy rush of visitors to Kullu-Manali in May-June. You end up paying more for Rafting, Paragliding, Trekking etc. The food rates also shoot up.

4. Finding a decent hotel room is difficult, very difficult

Most hotels are booked in advance and finding a decent accommodation in Kullu-Manali during these two months becomes quite a headache. If you are lucky enough, you may still get a decent room. If not, you may end up regretting your stay and curse yourself forever.

5. Overcrowded

You escape city crowd to get stuck in even bigger crowd in Kullu and Manali. Over 35 lakh people visit Kullu and Manali every year and the majority of it in just two months of May and June. If you are like one of those travellers who don’t like crowds at their favourite hill stations, then just avoid visiting in May and June.
