There is this thing about rivers I really love. You sit on the bank of a river, watch her rhythmic flow and listen to the tranquil harmonies she creates rising and falling and splashing the sunlit rocks, and you start to feel a lot better, if not exactly happy. Sometimes, you also begin to wonder about the origin of a river, the source of her perennial existence, her birthplace.

So recently I decided to trek up to Beas Kund, the source of Beas river, and as soon as the monsoon got over I was on my way. Needless to say, it turned out to be one of the best treks I had done in recent times.

Here we are listing out some of the beautiful facts about Beas Kund trek for all the nature lovers and hikers, who want to walk up this beautiful river and reach her source high in the snow-clad mountains. Happy hiking!

Yes! This is the trek on which you meet the sparkling snow-clad Seven Sisters, the seven consecutive peaks that rise off the ground to altitude ranging from 15,000 feet to 16,250 feet. You need to watch your steps on the trek after spotting the peaks as once you seen the Seven Sisters, it’s difficult to take your eyes off them.

4. Mount Hanuman Tibba and Shaeti Dhar

Besides Seven Sisters, you also come face to face with the majestic Hanuman Tibba, the highest mountain in the Dhauladhar range that stands tall at an altitude of 5,982 meters. Beas Kund also serves as the base camp for climbers, who attempt to reach the summit of Hanuman Tibba. Along with the Mount Tibba, you can also see the Shaeti Dhar (White Peak) from the Beas Kund, another favorite of the climbers.

5. Hanging Glaciers

The Beas Kund trek can also be easily termed as a ‘glacier trek’ as it takes you right up to the white, frozen, ageless glaciers fixed in the mountains and even hanging out. Standing at the Beas Kund, you can have a good view of the glaciers including the hanging glacier. I have hardly seen such glorious glaciers on many treks.

6. The Glacial Lake

And of course, your precious prize at the end of the trek is the Beas Kund, a glacial lake, which is the source of Beas river. Locals believe that sage Vyas had created the Beas river and that explains her name. And when you sit here by the serene waters of the Kund amidst all the mighty mountains of Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas, you can feel the true joy of a mind at complete peace.
