Barog is a small hill station situated along the Kalka-Shimla heritage railways in the Solan district of Himachal Pradesh. Barog can be approached through a link road that starts from Kumarhatti, near Dharampur, and ends in Solan town. It’s less than 10-minute drive from Kumarhatti to Barog or from Solan to Barog on this link road.

Barog is named after Colonel Barog, a British engineer, who had committed suicide here. This small hill station is primarily popular because of its historic Barog railway station (named after Colonel Barog) that has the longest tunnel (Tunnel number 33) on the Kalka-Shimla track. Also, because the weather here remains mostly pleasant due to its altitude (1860 meters) and good forest cover.

Yes, it does. However, over the years, like so many other places in the hills including Kasauli and Dagshai, the amount of snowfall that Barog receives has also dropped.

You can visit the historic Barog railway station and also go on a hike to the unfinished old tunnel of Colonel Barog.

Yes. There are many good staying options in Barog which provide stunning views of the surrounding hills and the distant mountain ranges. Also, from Barog you can always plan a day-trip to the nearby Dagshai town. Actually, Barog is one of the best places to stay if you want to visit Dagshai.

Barog is in the neighbour of two popular destinations — Dagshai and Kasauli. While Dagshai and Barog hills face each other, Kasauli hills are also nearby and it take less than an hour to reach from Barog. Solan town is also at about 10-minute drive from Barog.
