Not many travellers know much about this quaint little town called Dagshai. Here are the answers to some of the frequently asked questions about Dagshai.


It’s a historic town situated in the Solan district of Himachal Pradesh. This hilly town was founded by the Britishers as a cantonment and it still is.  It’s a 10-minute drive from Dharampur town, which is on the Chandigarh-Shimla highway.

Yes, especially for a curious traveller a visit to this place is a must. There is so much to explore here — from the historic Dagshai Jail Museum, built in 1849, to its old churches and historic cemeteries.

Dagshai is located at an altitude of 1853 meters. So, the weather here remains mostly pleasant barring the winters when it gets colder especially in the nights. 

No. There are not more than couple of hotels in Dagshai. Also, there are no restaurants. Most travellers, who visit Dagshai, stay in the nearby places which offer nice accommodations.

You can stay in Kasauli and spend a day in Dagshai. You can also stay in the nearby Barog, which has good staying options. Most travellers like to stay in and around Kasauli and then visit the nearby places of interest including Dagshai.

Kasauli and Dagshai are neighbours. Both the hills face each other with Dharampur town in between. To reach Dagshai, you need to first reach Dharampur, which is at a distance of around 10 kms from Kasauli. From Dharampur, Dagshai is a 10-minute drive.

No. It’s not. Unlike Kasauli, there is ample space for parking vehicles.

Since Dagshai is an army cantonment, photography or videography is prohibited at some sensitive locations. However, in most of the areas, it’s allowed.
