Hamta Pass Trek Overview
Hamta Pass (also spelled Hampta) is a mountain corridor that connects Kullu valley with Lahaul. Originally a shepherd route, the Hamta Pass trek is one of the most scenic ones as you walk through mesmerizing valleys, lush green meadows, cross gushing white-water rivulets while beholding breathtaking views of the mighty Himalayas.
This trek schedule can be tailor-made to suit the requirements of trekkers. Either you can trek up to Chatru and then head for Chandertal lake in a taxi if the weather, road and other conditions permit or you can trek up to Hamta Pass and then return via the same route. This will add the number of trekking days in your itinerary by at least two more days but hey you will have extra time to explore the nature and have fun.
Trek Itinerary
DAY 0
Arrival in Kullu-Manali
You arrive in Kullu-Manali and get some time to acclimatize yourself. You can stay at our partner hotels/ guesthouses/ huts/ campsites.
DAY 1
Prini to Chhika
We meet in Manali and drive towards Prini, around 4 kms from Manali from where the trek starts. We begin our trek after breakfast and reach Chhika before sunset after crossing Sethen Hamta and Panduropa.
DAY 2
Chhika to Balu Ka Ghera
We start in the morning and follow a rivulet, cross some rough terrains. As the tree line disappears we reach Balu Ka Ghera by evening. We stay here for the night.
DAY 3
Balu Ka Ghera to Hamta Pass to Shea Goru
We start early morning as it’s going to be a long and beautiful day. We reach the Hampta Pass by afternoon following a steep hike and then descend towards Shea Goru where we stay for the night.
Day 4
Shea Goru to Chatru
The trek from here to Chatru is relatively easier. We reach Chatru after a trek of five to six hours and stay here for the night.
Day 5
Chatru to Chandertal to Manali
We have two options here: Either we can take a taxi and reach Chandertal lake, around 70 kms from here, and then return to Manali if the weather permits and road conditions are good or we trek back.
FAQs
Frequently asked questions and answers
Will I be refunded If I cancel a trek?
It depends on when you are cancelling it. This is our trek cancellation policy:
Total Refund: If cancelled a month before the beginning of the trek date.
75% cash refund: If cancelled 15 days before the start of the trek date.
50% cash refund: If cancelled within a week before the start of the trek date.
Why cancellation charges?
Because when a trek is booked, our team starts making arrangements like taking permissions from the local administrations to checking routes to setting up base camps etc. So, if a trek is cancelled nearer to the trek starting date, higher the cancellation charges or lesser the refund amount.
Do we cancel treks?
It’s extremely rare. The Wildcone will cancel a trek only and only due to extreme and unfavorable weather conditions or natural calamities or because of some other external factors like a government regulation etc which are not in our hands. We have not cancelled any treks so far. If we do, we will provide a voucher for the full trek amount. The voucher can be redeemed in any of our future treks.
What all do I need to bring along for a trek?
Depends from trek to trek. But a pair of good hiking shoes and warm clothes are a must for any trek. Once you have booked a trek, our team members will provide you all information and answer all your queries.
What’s the menu during a trek?
We serve three vegetarian meals — breakfast, lunch and dinner — everyday on a trek. Consumption of alcohol is not allowed.
Why trek with the Wildcone?
Because your safety and a hassle-free experience is our top priority. And this is ensured by our seasoned professionals, who are the most trusted trekking guides in the Kullu valley having decades of experience in mountaineering.
