Also spelled as Subathu and locally pronounced as Spatu, Sabathu is a cantonment town in the Solan district of Himachal Pradesh. It is at a distance of around 15 kms from Dharampur town, which is on the Kalka-Shimla highway.

Because it’s a historic place with a British and Gorkha past. Sabathu is the oldest cantonment town in the hills of Himachal Pradesh and also the first place where Britishers had first started living after defeating the Gorkha army. Sabathu was turned into a cantonment by Britishers in 1815. Sabathu was also the unofficial capital of the hill states of Himachal before Britishers moved over to Shimla.

It’s a good place to visit if you are curious about history. It’s a treasure trove for history buffs and curious travellers.  

It gets a little warm in the summers due to its lower altitude. Sabathu is located at a comparatively lower altitude (1292 meters) than its neighbors Kasauli (1927 meters) and Dagshai (1853 meters). In winters, it gets cold but not cold enough for a snowfall. Even Sabathu used to get snow but that was many decades back.

No. Within the cantonment limit, there are no hotels.

There are many good staying options around Sabathu. You can stay in the nearby Kasauli or Barog. There are many good hotels, villas and cottages in and around Kasauli and Barog.

No. Space for parking is not a problem in Sabathu.

Since Sabathu is a cantonment, you are not allowed to click photographs or make videos of army installations.
