Baijnath temple is one of the oldest Shiva temples. It was built in 1204 AD and is more than 800-year-old.

TWO BROTHERS
Baijnath temple was got built by two pious merchant brothers — Manyuka and Ahuka.

OLD NAME
The temple was built at Kiragrama, Baijnath’s old name. Kiragrama was named after Kiras, a tribe from the neighbouring Kashmir.

LORD VAIDYANATH
Baijnath temple is dedicated to Lord Vaidyanath or Lord of the Physicians, which is also Lord Shiva’s name. Later, Vaidyanath became Baijnath.

King Sansar Chand
It is believed that Sansar Chand, who is hailed as one of the greatest kings of Kangra’s Katoch dynasty, had renovated and restored the Baijnath temple in 1786.

Miracle
Surprisingly, Baijnath temple had survived the devastating Kangra earthquake of 1905. It was nothing short of a miracle, literally.
