Many areas of Himachal Pradesh were struck by cloudbursts on the early hours of August 1.
In Kullu, a flash flood, triggered by a cloudburst, damaged Malana dam and flooded the Parvati river.
A total 33 people trapped in the Malana dam tunnel were rescued by a team of the NDRF.
Same morning, a flooded Beas river washed away many stretches of the Chandigarh-Manali highway between Kullu and Manali.
And flood gates of Pandoh dam in Mandi were opened. Two gates got jammed due to high silt level.
In Nirmand area of Kullu, one person died and 31 houses were washed away in a flash flood. Nine people are still missing.
In Mandi district, eight people were killed and two are missing after a flash flood washed away houses in Terang village.
The entire Samej village of Shimla district was washed away in a cloudburst. A total 33 people including 8 school children are still missing.
Cloudbursts were also reported near Kaza and Darcha in Lahaul Spiti district.
This is the second year in a row Himachal has been struck by disaster. Is it because of climate change?
