Cannabis cultivation will be legalised in Himachal for industrial and medical use only.
1
It won’t affect the current ban on charas aka marijuana in the state. You still won’t be able to buy or sell charas.
2
The state government will give the license-to-grow-cannabis to farmers and also provide the cannabis seeds.
3
The seeds will have a THC value of not more than 0.3%. The THC is the primary psychoactive substance in cannabis.
4
The entire cultivation process from sowing till harvesting in a designated area will be monitored by the government.
5
There won’t be any cap on the THC value of seeds for medical cannabis. But license conditions will be stricter.
6
You will not be legally allowed to sell or consume medical cannabis. If caught, legal action will be taken.
7
Himachal police has seized around 4000 kgs of charas and filed over 12,000 cases in the last around one decade.
8
However, according to experts, it’s not even the tip of the iceberg. Hundreds of tonnes of charas is smuggled out of Himachal every year.
9
Legalisation may impact the production of Malana Cream, the top quality charas produced in the Parvati valley of Kullu district.
