1. Rohtang Pass is one of the highest mountain passes. It's located at an altitude of 3980 meters (13,058 feet) in the Pir Panjal range of mountains.

2. Rohtang Pass is situated at a distance of 55 kms from Manali and connects Kullu valley with Lahaul and Spiti.

3. Beas Kund, the place of the origin of the Beas river, is located at the Rohtang Pass only.

4. Rohtang Pass literally means ‘pile of dead bodies.’ When there was no road, numerous people had died while crossing this pass. Hence the name.

Rohtang Pass is immensely popular because of such majestic views.  

5. In the old days, it was believed that one can’t live or survive beyond Rohtang Pass. Even the old name of Kullu was Kulantpith or ‘the end of the habitable world.’

6. Rohtang Pass remains closed for six to seven months every year due to heavy snow. It's closed around late October and reopened in late May or early June.

7. It can snow here even in late May and you can witness snow here even in June. Also, it mostly remains windy at the Rohtang Top.

8. The phone network is mostly patchy or not present at all at the Rohtang Top.

9. You need to take permit online from Kullu administration before visiting the Pass. Only 800 petrol and 400 diesel vehicles are allowed daily to reach the Top.

10. The best time to visit the Rohtang Pass is June or September and October. If you want to witness snow on the Top then visit in June.
