Kasauli hills are not only lovely but also closest to the plains, making it easily accessible. It takes less than two hours from Chandigarh to reach Kasauli in a taxi or if you are driving yourself. There is no other hill station, which is this near to the plains.

The best way to reach Kasauli is to first reach Chandigarh, which has a good air, rail and road connectivity to the other parts of the country, and from here you can either hire a taxi or use public transport.


2. Kasauli is the perfect weekend destination

If you don’t have much time to spend, then again Kasauli is your best choice. Over the years, Kasauli has emerged as one of the best weekend destinations due to its closeness to the plains and because of its easy accessibility.

Kasauli’s weather is often described as salubrious. And it is so. Its altitude (1927 meters) and the surrounding forests of pine trees ensure pleasant weather most days of the year. In summers, when the plains are literally boiling, Kasauli welcomes you into its cool climes.

In winters, it gets a little chilly like most other hill towns but some enjoy it too.


4. Kasauli’s old world charm is bewitching

Kasauli was established as a cantonment by the Britishers more than 170 years ago. And Kasauli has kept its old world charm intact. Kasauli’s buildings, bungalows, roads, even letter boxes — all take you back in time. Some of the buildings, which were built by the Britishers, like the Christ Church, the Central Research Institute (CRI), Kasauli Club, the Lawrence school, are the oldest landmarks of Kasauli.

It was also here that the first brewery had come up in the 1840s. So, if you want to check out the British legacy, then Kasauli is a must visit place for you.


5. Kasauli’s nature trails are awesome

There is so much you can do in Kasauli. You can explore its beautiful surroundings by following the nature trails like the ‘Gilbert Trail,’ visit the Sunset and Sunrise points for lovely sky views at dawn and dusk. You can explore the ‘Khushwant Singh Trail’ that takes you to Kalka, the first town at the foot of the hills. You can also hike up to the Monkey Point, the highest peak of Kasauli.


6. You can also visit Kasauli’s equally beautiful neighbours

From Kasauli you can take a small trip to the two other neighboring cantonment towns founded by the Britishers — Sabathu and Dagshai. Both these places are situated in the nearby hills and can be reached in about one hour’s drive from Kasauli.

Britishers had made Sabathu their headquarters for the Simla hill states after defeating Gorkhas in the Anglo-Gorkha war of 1814-15. In Dagshai, you can visit the historic Central Jail, which has been converted into a museum.
